MTV STAYING ALIVE MUSIC SUMMIT FOR HIV/ AIDS 2008 ON DECEMBER 3

RICO BLACO, OFFICIAL SPOKESPERSON

7 November, 2008 Manila – Get ready for the country’s biggest concert for a cause: the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS 2008 on December 3 at SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds! Rico Blanco makes a stand and helps out the cause as the official spokesperson of the event.

MTV is the ultimate destination for all things relevant to youth. Besides music, fashion, school, entertainment, and sports, MTV also aggressively focuses on pro-social causes that we feel are important to our audience, such as stemming the use of drugs, and HIV/AIDS education.

In line with this, MTV Networks International launched the Staying Alive campaign in 1998. It is a global multimedia award-winning awareness and prevention campaign that seeks to help prevent HIV/AIDS by empowering the youth to protect themselves, fight stigma and discrimination, and engage businesses, media and organizations to form their own response to HIV/AIDS.

Since 2003, MTV Philippines has hosted the annual MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS. Through the universal language of music, the Summit aims to create a greater awareness about HIV/AIDS. The event is the country’s biggest concert for a cause. Featuring the biggest names in music and entertainment, the MTV Music Summit has become the most anticipated concert in the country. Every year the concert draws crowds of 50,000 – 80,000 people from all over the country and abroad. This event has attracted the likes of Mandy Moore, Joshua Payne, the Barbs, Jay Sean, Duncan Sheik and Mig Ayesa to the Philippines. This year’s concert is set to take place on December 3, Wednesday.

Campaign and Event Fact Sheet

What is the Staying Alive campaign and how is MTV connected to it?

The Staying Alive campaign, which was launched in 1998, is a partnership between MTV Networks International, Family Health International’s YouthNet, Kaiser Family Foundation, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Joint United Nations Programme for HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). It is a multimedia award-winning awareness and prevention campaign that seeks to help prevent HIV/AIDS by empowering the youth to protect themselves, fight stigma and discrimination, and engage businesses, media and organizations to form their own response to HIV/AIDS.

This multimedia global campaign includes long-form programming, such as documentaries, concert events, discussion programmes and made for TV movies, public service announcements, sexual behaviour polls, a dedicated, multi-lingual web site (www.staying-alive.org), and off-air marketing and grassroots promotions.

  • What is the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS?
MTV Philippines is proud to be part of the global Staying Alive campaign, and has shown its support since 2003 through the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS – a massive concert that features the biggest names in music, entertainment and sports.

Also seen as a celebration of life, the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS serves as a call for everyone to take a united stand against the ignorance that prevails about HIV/AIDS. Working closely with UN AIDS, DOH and Philippine National AIDS Council, the event's main goal is to send out key messages and create a greater awareness about HIV/AIDS through the universal language of music.

Being Committed with Dianne Elise

Being Committed with Dianne Elise

From modernized classics to re-defined pop hits, Dianne Elise declares resilience in her sophomore album Committed. After the success of her debut album, she was signed up by MCA Music and immediately went back to the studio to record another fine selection of melodies. On this new album, Dianne digresses from the jazz standards and goes forward into the pop genre. Listeners will find thirteen tracks on the album that share the common denominator of love.

If people secretly long for the days of the boy band craze, Committed gives people the chance to reminisce with tracks like Westlife’s “If I Let You Go” and ‘N Sync’s “This I Promise You.” Revamped arrangements by Marc Santos make the songs more unique without losing the essence that made them appealing in the first place. For those whose boy band obsession never took place, Dianne renders retro tunes for the young and old alike. To add some spice, guest musicians Justin Bandolon and Mark Ramos from Tres throw in some sweet riffs.

The carrier single of the album, “If You’re Not the One,” was handpicked by the solo artist herself during the selection process but it almost did not make the cut. While others argued the song was too contemporary to revive, Dianne insisted on coming out with her own version. The result was a refreshing take on Daniel Bedingfield’s hit with a more delicate touch. If You’re Not The One is currently gaining heavy rotation on POP Adult Contemporary stations in Metro Manila and in the provinces.

The contributions made by other musicians helped round off the album with their incredible talent. AJ Salvado from Silk and Reuben Laurente provided the backup, while the latter performed with Dianne in a soaring duet, “Miss You Like Crazy.” In the only original composition on the album, bassist extraordinaire Bimbo Yance collaborated with Dianne to create a more earnest melody. Together they wrote the final track “How Could You”.

When asked why she picked the title Committed, Dianne relates, “The album talks about the continuous struggle of any relationship. There are ups and downs but the point is to stay committed all throughout.” Her description can be made akin to the journeys people take in life, like that of her career. Since her debut, she has taken on the roles of a radio jock, commercial model, and host. But whether there are ups and downs, it seems Dianne Elise is always ready to show her commitment.

This November, Dianne gets an even bigger boost as she tours the Robinsons malls.  Catch her perform live on: November. 22 – Robinsons, Sta. Rosa, Laguna, November 23 -  Robinsons Manila, November 29 -  Robinsons Metro East, December 6 -   Robinsons Novaliches, December 13 – Robinsons Dasmarinas, Cavite,  December 21 -  Robinsons Star mills in Pampanga and January 23, 2008  -  Robinsons Galeria.

Grab a copy of Dianne Elise’s sophomore album aptly titled COMMITTED featuring the hit carrier track If You’re Not The One.  Now available in leading record stores nationwide.

Dianne Elise to unveil latest project

Filipinos first heard Dianne Elise when she revived the Chicago classic “You’re the Inspiration.” Since then she has come out with more singles including a Chris Cross cover and her own composition. This time she is returning to the music scene to make bigger waves. She just signed with MCA Music, the local arm of the Universal Music Group and the largest recording company worldwide. Dianne is now among the Philippines’ most formidable acts, which include Richard Poon, Julianne, Miguel Escueta, Zoo, Pedicab, Chiscosci, Cambio and Side A.  She is all set to release her sophomore album this month.

The new album is called Committed and it takes listeners through the roller coaster of love. Promising songs include a string of boy band hits and retro ballads, but the most alluring is the first track, “If You’re Not the One.” While the Daniel Bedingfield song was too recent to revive for some, Dianne was said to have insisted on doing her own version. The result was the ubiquitous idea to make it the first single off the album.

Award-winning director Milos Curameng took on the challenge of creating the music video for this song. The concept of the shoot had Dianne reaching out to someone that could only be barely seen. For those familiar with the director’s works, it would be no surprise that he set the video to a somber tone. But with the song’s debatably happy mood, a balance was struck to let the viewers decide how they want to interpret it.

You can vote for Dianne Elise’s “If You’re Not the One” on MYX by keying in MYX_VOTE_TITLE OF THE SONG AND SEND TO 2366.
