About Me: DENSE...DANCE Creator of SITTI IN THE MIX and NINA IN THE MIX. The man behind the YouTube hits, SAGING LANG ANG MAY PUSO, I CAME FROM ONE OF THE TUFF TEN, REMEMBER BEAUTY WITH BRAINS and KEN LEE remixes. This DJ surely has managed to make a mark in the industry. TWO-DECK BEGINNINGS Dense Modesto hails from a small town in Iligan City called Carbide Village. His interest for mixing music started in his early teen years where he mixed music using only a two-deck cassette recorder as part of high school musical productions in Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro City. He also liked to mimic deejays back then. NEVER TO EARLY At the tender age of 17, instead of applying for a summer job at a local fast-food chain, which was his original plan, Dense ended up working for a local radio station, 90.3 DXEQ-FM, after hearing an ad play on the radio. In his first stint as a local disc jockey, he learned on-air mixing as well as creating mash-ups, the term used for mixing two songs into a single song. “I think the very first mash-up I have done was Tiffany’s “If Love is Blind” combined with beats from Sybil’s “Easy on Me”. It only aired for two weeks on the station I was working for”, says the deconstructionist. His first solo radio dance show was with Killer Bee 89.3 Cagayan de Oro coined “Bee Sunset Buzz with DAVID BANG”. A newly established Killer Bee had a lean library then, thus he had to pick up, borrow and return ten to twenty vinyl records for on air use every single day from deejay friends. SMALL TIME BOY IN THE BIG CITY In 1996, Dense came to Manila, searching for greener pastures. His ride to employment was anything but smooth. It took a year before he became one of the DJs in MellowTouch as Dennis Wade. In 1998, he joined the on-air team of Crossover, eventually became the program director of Home Radio 97.9 and would later host his own show, the “Jazz Journals” on CityLite 88.3. He became a jack-of-all-trades after all those years living in the metro. “The scenario was always two employers at a time. Freelance writing, directing, video editing for television, and announcing for radio are some of the jobs I took. I voiced for Skycable’s Pinoy Blockbuster channel in the mornings and playing smooth jazz on CityLite in the evenings.” Fast forward to 2003, Dense became the voice-over of Solar USA, which eventually became JackTV. Now, he is also the voice behind Crime and Suspense channel. “Well, I guess I’m never satisfied with just one”, the DJ claimed jokingly. TIME TO MULTIPLY Due to a lax in work schedules with Solar Entertainment, which is an hour a day in a three-day workweek, he created an account in Multiply, granting remix requests from friends and fellow “Multiplyers” during his spare time. In 2006, he created a remix of “I Didn’t Know I Was Looking for Love” for Sitti fans in the website. Because of this, the number of visits in Dense’ Multiply site had increased. Requests poured in. And the rest, as the cliché goes, is history. One remix came after another: Lady Wants to Know, One Note Samba and Girl from Ipanema. Fans eventually urged Dense to come up with an album of his own. Unfortunately, he didn’t know anyone from the music industry during that time and settled for the satisfaction of being able to share his work online. A LONG WAIT, OVER However, a year later, one of his infamous remixes caught Warner Music Philippines’ attention and thus got to sign him in for a series of projects and “Sitti in the Mix – The Dense Modesto Remixes” got underway. Released by Warner Music Philippines and Myx last month, it is currently the number one dance album in record bars all over the metro. In his Empty Hallway remix of Invisible War, Dense did the backup vocals on the track. Sitti in the Mix – The Dense Modesto Remixes marks the beginning of the “In the Mix” series of compilations. To date, SITTI IN THE MIX has achieved it's GOLD ALBUM stature. This huge success was immediately followed by the release of NINA IN THE MIX, The Dense Modesto Remixes also under CLUB MYX and Warner Music Philippines.
