"Life is about variety and choice. We choose what we want or what we don't want in life. We can't live in a manner that's too specific. Everything is connected to everything else, directly or indirectly and whether it may be of good purpose or not...Variety is the common denominator of everything that exists." Descant Gott originally formed with Loubelle on vocals, Jay and Chris on lead guitars, and Fred on drums in May of 2005, after Loubelle and Fred parted ways from their former band Wormtongue. The band members have diverse influences that fuel their musical drive – ranging from Hammerfall, Iced Earth, Sepultura, and Immortal – but eventually went with the Gothenburg blueprint sound in their music, characterized by harsh vocal shrieks, vigorous twin guitar melodies, and an active rhythm section. Their first gig was at Purple Haze Bar in Marikina of the same month, where they performed without a bassist. Days after the gig, the band was contacted by Joji Crisologo, guitarist of the now-defunct Dahong Palay. He offered his help as the bassist of the band, in which they accepted. Boasting a stable and solid lineup, Descant Gott performed on numerous events at different venues and regions in the country, most notably their AURAL MASSACRE 2 appearance at Subic, Olongapo. In the process, the band gained momentum and acceptance in the local underground metal community. With their new-found reputation, not only did the band end up performing on numerous gigs by Ironworks Productions and Bandido Productions, but, most importantly, they improved on different aspects of their music. Their newer songs got more technical and challenging without compromising their intensity and power. Unfortunately, tension arose between band members soon after, which led to Fred's ill-fated departure. He was replaced by Carlo, as the lineup has been stabilized once again. Despite all, Descant Gott forged on and played gigs with a renewed sense of purpose. During the middle of the year, the band participated in the prestigious Red Horse Muziklaban 2006 band competition, held during the month of August and September. The band reached the Grand Finals leg, but failed to win the grand prize. Still, their ferocious showing during the tournament was enough to gain the respect of the crowd. Their efforts were rewarded when the band recorded their track “Forgotten Paragon” on the compilation album for the year’s Muziklaban finalists. Later that year, another setback occurred when the band and Joji headed different directions. His spot was filled in by Marco (ex-Crucifix), and would go on to become part of the band up to this day. Descant Gott have gone through the trial by fire, but their perseverance have paid off with the admiration and acceptance of their peers and listeners. With more than two years under their belt, there seems to be no stopping the power of Gott!
