Hmmm..well.. I'm a NoyPi in Vietnam missing the band scene in 'Pinas. I tried to form a band here in Saigon but people are just too busy. So now I just sing regularly with the house band at this bar called Acoustic Cafe singin' not-so-popular songs in my own superhyper rock style which I've been told the Vietnamese find "quite different" and I'm not really sure they dig it. But the fact that they haven't kicked me out probably means it's growing on them. I actually feel lucky to be playin' here cause it's one of the best places in Saigon for live music -- it's unbelievably packed almost everyday -- it's where some of the best musicians in town come to jam -- and the crowd is mostly Vietnamese, not ex-pats. But music is not what I do for a living (unfortunately)...I'm in advertising but lovin' it nevertheless. Lovin' Saigon for sure..been here for almost 2 years and it looks like I'm stayin' for at least another year. I've written a couple of songs while in Saigon but haven't had the chance to make anything out of 'em. Been talking to fellow music enthusiasts/promoters in the hopes of bringing Filipino bands here...been successful with The Dorques so far. As the music scene in Vietnam is not that well developed yet, I support with my whole heart all efforts to introduce the Vietnamese to different kinds of music, beyond the cheesy ballads that most people like. I will try and let you in on the goings-on in the music scene here in Saigon..for those who are interested..
